Hello, and welcome back to the, a player matchmakers where we’re always trying to find different ways to add value to job seekers and employers. And this particular podcast is probably actually for both because you’ve got a lot of employers who have been hit with this COVID crisis. I’m talking to you around may of 2020. So we’re just now coming out of this thing. Hopefully, we’re coming out of it at least. And you’ve got employees and employers trying to figure out what in the world’s going on. You know, we had in April, we had 20.4 million people apply for unemployment benefits. So there are a lot of people try and figure out, all right, what’s happening? What is this going to be like? Am I going to have a job? When’s the market going to come back? All sorts of uncertainty had have happened, but we don’t really have to look at it like that. That it’s all uncertainty crisis creates unprecedented problems. We got that. It’s very easy to see all the problems, but a big crisis also creates unprecedented opportunities. And so for the employees that are out there, I want to encourage you. There is going to be something really good in the form of an opportunity. Come your way. If you seek it out and for employers, sorry, employees, but for employers, there has never, ever been such an unbelievable time to recruit. And that is because just April 20.4 million people filed for unemployment. I’ve got to think that there are some good people in those 20.4 million people with the top Tulsa Medical Staffing today. Some really talented people are now available to open to new opportunities like they never have been before. And if you want to compare that to the great depression, only 8 million people became unemployed during the, uh, during that time period. So it’s just an unprecedented time.
But since February senior executives have increasingly been trying to figure out from hiring managers about how the pandemic and the new presumed recession will affect hiring in 2020. Well, I don’t like to speak about a recession because it hasn’t happened yet. We had a really huge hit, I don’t know exactly what’s going to happen, but I’m really not ready to speak recession yet. But the answer is, is that it’s gonna vary, um, in any time of economic distress, which we’re in right now, not every industry slows down. In fact, listen, I’ve got a good buddy. Who’s in the it industry. He really shot up. Did really well. Um, another one of my good friends, uh, is, uh, one of the operators slash owners of, uh, three Chick-fil-A’s, I think two or three, and his business has gone up by 30% and they haven’t had one person walk in the store where it’s all through the drive-through when it comes to our Tulsa Medical Staffing services.
So there are some businesses that are going to see an uptick while other companies are going to lay off. So for, to give, uh, a great contrast because in to let you know that this is very real to me is Trinity saw a 70% decrease in our gross profit during that time. Now we have since bounced and we’re beginning to climb our way up, but that did happen. And it was very, very stressful and concerning. We’re probably going, I’m not even gonna say that we’re absolutely going to pull out of this when things when our customers begin to recover because the reason that we had that problem is that our customers were having that problem as well. And so as every prior downturn has shown there’s an opportunity in chaos when it comes to the top Tulsa Medical Staffing around, and it’s not the, it’s not an unethical top of opportunity. Um, so what we want to talk about here is nine tips for hiring and for retaining your employees during the crisis that we’re going through.
The first thing is, is prioritize hiring needs based on necessity, function, work, arrangement, and location. What, what Trinity had to do is really step back and analyze who was doing what, what was essential for our business because of what we lost and really step back and go, all right, but where, what do we want to accomplish when we recover? What do we want Trinity to look like? And so we really stepped back and as much of a bad situation as we were in, we wanted to just make the most of the situation that we were in and use it as an opportunity to restructure anything that probably could have used some adjustment when seeking the best Tulsa Medical Staffing. The second thing is, is project WIC, which functions will no longer be needed and which will have to be adjusted. And as well as what new functions, modern rise in this new economic problem, you know, you want to assess how current staff can be retained and retrained in this new structure.
And, you know, one of the things that were very good that came out of this is we were able to take one of our employees who was previously a recruiter and move them into a role that they just really seemed to be flourishing in and really enjoying and being a much greater value, at least to me. It seems like you want to determine what openings exist after evaluating the current state of staff and functions and factor in business, uh, redundancy needs when assessing workflow and staffing, he just sit back and really take a look at the third thing is, is looking for candidates who have worked successfully in virtual environments. One of the things that Trinity figured out during this is that, um, we worked more efficiently in a virtual environment. I don’t because my skillsets are face to face, but from a recruiting standpoint, you can do a lot of interviews over zoom and video type, uh, platforms.
And when people were at work, believe it or not, they were much, much more efficient. Um, but all other qualifications being equal, the candidate who’s worked in a remote capacity could, uh, probably assimilate faster when, when hiring the fourth thing, when hiring, given an edge to qualified candidates who have made it through multiple layoffs rounds, um, this is going to be able to tell you who the company valued the most when, when you can find out what round in the layoff they went to. It’s not a for sure thing, because sometimes they’re going to eliminate the entire department in the first round with our great Tulsa Medical Staffing services. I just had a conversation with an employer today, and they are laying off their entire division here in the Tulsa area, 143 employees. And she was talking about the stages and some departments are going to be eliminated immediately, and some are going to stay to retrain the other branches in the different locations.
Um, and that’s, what’s going to happen. Um, fifth thing, identify candidates that have a track record of succeeding in, in things that they’ve never done before. Um, unprecedented opportunities come to people who can view it that way. Can you the crisis as a way to take advantage of it, or they’re just people who have grit and, you know, players, people that when something isn’t working, they adjust and they figure it out anyway, rather than just sticking to the same thing over and over again. So that’s also an indicator of an, a player, um, six seek out candidates who embrace the idea that there is an ethical opportunity in chaos. People who get excited about this, Warren buffet said be greedy when other people are fearful and be fearful when other people are greedy. That’s kind of a little slant on this, but people who see opportunity in crisis with our top Tulsa Medical Staffing, number seven, evaluate existing onboard onboarding processes and step back and see, are there any processes at all that you can, that you can address and improve and take time for the down take time to create during the downtime?
Listen, Trinity is going to be spinning off a new business with new technology in recruiting all because I was sitting there doing nothing and I didn’t know what to do. And some and a partner created this new technology. I think it’s gonna be a great thing for Trinity. Um, the last thing is to assess how each candidate’s work arrangement should be structured. Really take a look at each employee. Like what, what Trinity did. You know, we, we moved a recruiter, uh, into a role. That’s more of an administrative function. Uh, and she oversees a lot of our HR processes and, um, doing the, uh, you know, checking to see that all of our nurses are up to date and credentialing them. But it’s a great opportunity for companies to save some money, really step back, trimmed down if needed, and really be able to focus. And that is something that you need to take a look at. Hello, hello, and welcome back to the A-player matchmakers, where I’m always trying to find different ways to add value to job seekers and employers. And today the podcast is titled 10 recruiting strategies for hiring great talent, try and find an A player in this smorgasbord of talent that is out there for us. Let’s take a look at this. This is crazy in April 20.5 million people lost their jobs, according to the labor department, and many analysts believe that it could take years to recover. Let’s hope that’s not true. I like to speak positivity in the things that I’m doing, um, and anticipating a big downturn is, is not generally what makes or helps me to be successful myself. So I’m going to expect that this is going to turn around, but if it doesn’t turn around, I’m still gonna make the best of it. And I hope you can see things that way to the US to the US unemployment rate jumped to 14.7% in April, the highest level, since the great depression, Holy smokes, and as businesses began to shut down or severely begin to cut back operations, to try to limit the spread of the virus. The department of labor said that 20.5 million people abruptly lost their jobs, wiping out a decade of employment gains in one single month.
And that’s exactly what happened to Trinity in less than two weeks, we lost roughly 70% of our gross revenue, and it got really scary there for a while. Finally, it bounced we’re third, w we’re our third week into the bounce where we hit the bottom. We started coming back up slowly, but man, are we grateful? We’ve got some great customers. I’m literally trying to go out and find, I’m just going to send, I’ve got a buddy who owns a snow cone stand. I’m going to just send snowcones out to the customers that helped us stay alive during then. Cause I’m so very grateful for them, but it really was the top Tulsa Medical Staffing today. It, it got concerning the speed and magnitude of the loss nationally defies comparison. It’s roughly double what the nation experienced during the entire financial crisis from 2007 to 2009. And that was a big, big deal. So we might have some recovery time here, but I mentioned this and I’m going to continue mentioning this in every single podcast I do about this COVID every time I mentioned COVID, I’m going to remind everyone that every crisis brings up unprecedented or unexpected problems. And it also creates annex unprecedented opportunities. Wow, I’ve not got that mixed up tongue twister there, but I hope you understand what I’m saying.
That I’ve, I, I got data from the Washington post recruiting. Top talent takes a combination of creativity and diligence and technology makes it even easier than ever to publish your job postings to different audiences. This is for all the employers, but to connect with qualified candidates and drive excitement about the role in your company. You’re going to have to try to figure out a way to stand out. Even now, when it’s an employer’s top of the market, keep in mind, you’re still trying to go after the “a” players in there, we’ve got 20.5 million people. Who’s lost their jobs? There’s a ton of talent out there,
And there are going to be a lot of companies take advantage of this. So the first thing you’ve got to do is create a recruiting strategy, but what’s a recruiting strategy. You need to define this for your company, but in general, it’s a plan of action to successfully identify the best Tulsa Medical Staffing around, recruit, and hire high-quality candidates. We call them players around here, and these are the basic starting points that can help you attract job seekers that you’re looking for. And they range from basic methods like posting on job boards, having a referral program, you know, more advanced technologies leveraging a recruiting agency like Trinity employment specialist, by the way, that’s what we do. We’d love to help you, but you can implement recruiting strategies at every step of the recruitment process, but you need to know where you’re going. Um, a mentor of mine told me, listen, if you don’t know where you’re going, how are you going to know when you get there?
And that’s the importance of recruiting strategy? Um, I’ve got a few things here, 10 things I want to talk about, better jump into. I’m probably going to run out of time here. Number one, treat candidates like customers. It’s really important that you do that because they get to pick. And now it’s going to be less selective for a lot of employers. But I think that a lot of people have become to understand that money’s not everything and getting the right culture is almost everything. And so people are going to start looking at that. Here are a couple of hints, be respectful of their time, whether it’s a phone call video conference or in-person meeting, always be sure that you’re on time. Listen, it’s really easy as an employer to go well, I’m busy. They can wait for me, but listen to are there are, there is some psychology going on in their brain every minute that you are not there when you said you were going to be there.
So if you’re running late, make sure let the candidate know personally, let them know, listen, I’m going to be here at this time. Just give me one second. Showing a general courtesy goes a long way. Be hospitable. Um, when a candidate arrives for an in-person interview, ask if they’d like something to drink and show him, show them to the restroom. If they need to, if they need to know, um, make sure that they feel as welcome as possible in our waiting room we’ve got now, we’re, we’re having to socially distance. So that’s just uncomfortable in itself, but we’re trying to make it as best as possible by having relaxing music playing and that sort of thing. Um, you want to make yourself available, provide candidates with your contact information so they can reach out to you with questions, and make sure and update them on a general timeline.
One of the most frustrating things for anyone, I don’t care who you are is just waiting, especially when you want something. Number two, use social media. Social media is a fantastic recruiting tool. Trinity uses it. It’s one of our top recruiting tools. Um, social recruiting allows you to share job postings with your entire network. It encourages a two-way conversation. Even if the people you reach are interested in the role you’re hiring, it’s very likely, they may know someone who is, you know, also you can share photos, videos from company events, day-to-day office life, and you can get potential candidates.
It’s a little bit of a glimpse into the window, your company culture, cause that’s why they’re going to come anyway. Most likely number three, implement an employee referral program. This has just gone without saying it is one of the top ways of recruiting. Um, even if you’re a candidate, 80% of all jobs are found through someone, you know, number four, create a compelling job description when it comes to our Tulsa Medical Staffing. Um, writing attention, grabbing and thorough job description is very important to engage qualified candidates. And it’s really easy to get lazy. I know this is a staffing firm, it’s really easy for us to get lazy in here. So here are some quick little tips that make titles as specific as possible. Number six, check resumes posted online. It’s really important to do that. You can set up a resume alert. You can sign into indeed resume and have it alert you when a resume comes available, consider past, you know, you can let them know. Um, and if you have a system of doing that, it’s a very, very powerful tool. Number eight, claim your company page before applying to accompany job seekers often take time to research employee reviews, salary, data benefits, all of this good stuff.
All of this information can be found on indeed company pages, LinkedIn. You can find all sorts of information out there, just Google. Um, you can respond to reviews, customize your page, and add branding, um, attend industry-related meetups. There are all sorts of different meetups, especially right now during COVID zoom is a big, huge process in that. And the last thing is, is include peers in the interviewing process. Sometimes the best person to interview a candidate is someone who already is working in the same or similar role. And this employee already knows what it takes to Excel when it comes to our Tulsa Medical Staffing. They know what it doesn’t take to success and they know that if you ain’t got this, sorry for using word ain’t if you don’t have this specific skill, it’s going to be hard for you. And they’ve got some really good advice for hiring managers. A player matchmakers or we’re always trying to find different ways to add value to job seekers and employers. And this podcast is titled job searching during a crisis. We wanted to give you seven things you really need to know. Here’s some really striking data. I’ve, I’ve shared this similar kind of data in the last three or four podcasts I’ve done is because this COVID thing is just crazy. And I know you’re feeling it too. In the past four weeks, more than 22 million Americans filed for unemployment people across almost every industry has been impacted in some way, either through losing a job, having their hours reduced and as unemployment surges gig workers and the self is also struggling, trying to figure out how to keep their businesses afloat. Trinity was one of them. We lost 70% of our business there at one point in time. Now we’re starting to rebound funding for small businesses, ran out faster than anticipated, leaving the self-employed gig economy with really not very many options.
I know of someone pretty well that, uh, honestly just they, they missed the deadline and they were a contractor. They just barely missed it. It was a big crush on them. Um, data published by C space sponsored by monster revealed that more than a third 34% of employees are actively seeking a job. Holy smokes, 34% are looking for jobs. And, and though confidence is low. The job search process will undoubtedly prove to be really difficult for new grads, for sure. A lot of gig workers self-employed and unemployed with the best Tulsa Medical Staffing. And if job seekers want to prevail, they need to be adaptable, adaptable, sorry. And they’re going to have to be pretty persistent as well. They’re going to have to have some grit, have a really strong mindset to overcome a lot of rejections.
We wanted to give us here are some things to help job seekers be successful in their job search during a crisis. And so I’m hoping that this can be helpful. Candidates really shouldn’t overlook the opera, the possibility of a contract, or temporary or gig roles. And I know that not everyone wants to go work for Chick-fil-A, but I’ve got a really good friend who is an owner slash operator at two or three different Chick-fil-As here in town. And they surged by 30%. There are a lot of businesses that have done very well in the middle of this.
Um, I wished I could say the same for Trinity. We, we had a big hit. We had to lay off some employees because we no longer had the workload. We still don’t have the workload to bring them back. And that was one of the hardest things that I and my wife running Trinity have had to do. It was one of the hardest months of my life, but it’s bouncing back now and focusing on in-demand industries and companies such as healthcare, telecommuting, software shipping and delivering services, tech support, warehousing logistics, food supply chains are huge increase right now gives you ways to increase your chances of finding a job to hit hot markets with our top Tulsa Medical Staffing today. I want you to know that we staff in the healthcare field right now, the healthcare field is still very slow. However, it is going to rebound because all when, when elected surgery was canceled, guess what got really built up and backed up elective surgery. They have second, uh, listed here as nurses. And I can tell you that for certain nurses are not in high demand right now, they will be later. But, um, the reason I know that we have a, uh, travel nursing division to our agency. And right now the contracts that we have, normally they would have roughly 4,000 open opportunities in multi, multiple hospitals. And right now, if for normally 4,000, we’re down to less than a hundred. And I know that for sure, it’s starting to rebound, but I’m telling you, nurses, right now, are not it. Um, sales, uh, retail, and insurance agents, according to career builder, um, customer service representatives, labors data entry, and administrative support managers who are on the front lawn projects and truck drivers.
Um, so what are some things that you can do? Number one, ditch desperation and lead with purpose competition for jobs are harder than normal. Um, resulting in heightened emotions for everyone getting rejected. Just remember that you, it doesn’t matter how many rejections or nos quote knows you got when all you need is one. Yes, keep that in mind. Monster conducted another poll and found that 73% of employees are experiencing mental health stress such as depression due to the impact of the coronavirus. Um, I’m really concerned about suicides and stuff like that. Going up I’ve, I’ve mentioned this to our Congressman and, uh, and just the people that want to hear these things. I was concerned about that when we started shutting down the country, that it’s going to put a lot of people in some serious problems in their life without a Tulsa Medical Staffing to assist them. Um, the job search process should be about quality over quantity. Additionally, when job seekers burn out, their effort is affected. Be careful with that. The biggest thing also that I would really strongly suggest is when you are stuck in a negative situation, one, you need to know that it takes effort to be positive. I don’t know why, but it takes almost zero effort to be grumpy. And it’s really important to remember that we are the gatekeepers of our minds.
You got to protect what goes in and you’ve got to protect the thoughts that you allow to be thought about again and pondered. You’ve got to protect what goes in your mom, because if you’re anything like me, sometimes when things are negative, your mind can go crazy, really crazy. Some thoughts that are just not even rational. And this happens a lot of times in crisis. So you have to be a gatekeeper of your mind. Be very intentional with thoughts that you will receive and thoughts that you know are not the truth, which we have a lot of those happen sometimes, and just actively reject those thoughts. And if you can be a good gatekeeper of your mind, it’s a lot easier to stay positive. Um, the next thing is, is leverage and cultivate an online network. The old OD you know, the old thought, it’s not what you know, but it’s who, you know, it still holds true during crisis. But a lot of times, right now, this is happening over a digital network, but you want to stay in contact with people, especially people in your industry. So if ever there was a time to focus on leveraging and cultivating networks right now is time due to social distancing. People are a lot more receptive, receptive to, to virtual connections than ever before. And LinkedIn is an underrated platform that has, that is really starting soar. During this time. It helps bridge the gap between job seekers and employers does a really great job. We use it.
Um, while LinkedIn has more than 20 million job listings, 80% of new jobs by the way, are never posted because they’re found or created through networking. It’s very true. Trinity creates jobs all of the time, according to the undercover recruiter, employee referrals account for 80% of all hires the wall street journal put out an ad saying 80% somewhere in there. Next thing to think about be proactive and schedule followup meetings, the pandemic blindsided, many companies to the point where companies like Amazon are, um, unable to keep up with hiring demands. And as a result, candidates are being lost in the process of our Tulsa Medical Staffing. So you’ve got to follow up so you don’t get stuck in that black hole. Next thing is to build a personal brand. Um, Northeastern university describes a personal brand as being who you are and what you stand for, the values you embrace and the way in which you express those values, job seekers put a job seagulls seekers, a personal brand is what will set them apart from the competition.
You want to put some effort into your profile and make sure the stuff that you say you’re saying on social media, which by the way, stays there all the time. It is things that you would prefer for employers to read about you and not something that you kind of wish that professionals wouldn’t look at. It’s out there. Be careful you better mind your social media or, uh, it’ll, it’ll wake you up and surprise you at the consequences that’ll cost for you. Um, building a personal brand goes beyond a resume and cover letter. Employers are known to do to Google candidates, find out what people are saying about them. In addition to maintaining your current social media channels, job seekers should entertain additional avenues to demonstrate these skills. Um, some people are going as far as YouTube series. I, I don’t know that I would be looking at that.
Some people might, but it’ll show up in a, I’ll tell you what for SEO purposes. Um, if you shoot YouTube, Google right now, really highly views, uh, YouTube as important, they’re trying to promote YouTube. So it’s a very valuable thing to do. Um, you want to optimize your resume recruiters typically receive around 250 resumes per position right now, and only spend seven points, four seconds reviewing each resume. So I want you to keep in mind this, and then we, and then I’ll wrap this up. Reading a resume is going to be like shooting down a highway at 65 miles an hour. And then there’s a billboard. Have you ever seen these billboards? Some billboards are very easy to figure out what it is that they’re saying. You got probably three or four seconds to see it. And it’s either going to communicate something to you or it is not when it comes to our great Tulsa Medical Staffing services.
And your resume is very similar in front of a recruiter. You’ve got a very short amount of time for them to read it. You need to make sure that the top of your resume makes sense to that recruiter that they should, they should read further because they’re like, they’re going so fast. It’s like, they’re going 65 miles an hour down the road. And they see something over here and they’re going to read it real quick and then just pass it on, pass on it or become interested. And you gotta do that real quick. Keep that in mind when you’re writing your resumes, guys, I hope that this helps you in your job search. That’s really what we want to do.
