Hello, welcome back to part two of the travel nursing trends. A look ahead. I’m here with Darcel and my name is Corey. Um, and we are always trying to find different ways to add value to job seekers and employers. And this particular podcast is strictly for travel nurses. So this is, this is strictly going to be for the employees. And so if you are a nurse and you are considering travel nursing, this podcast probably be interesting to you because Darcel is our little expert here. Um, she is one of the newer additions to the Trinity team training. We have grown, we grew by 65% this last year and this next year we’re going to begin staffing all over the region starting and then in the United States. I’m super excited about having Darcell here. Thank you so much for joining me. I’m very excited about this project for your OKC Medical Staffing. Yeah. So we Darcell is leading this for us in this, she has a little over 10 years of experience in doing travel nursing.
So she’s got nurses that she’s worked with all over the nation. And um, we’re going to start doing this right here out of Tulsa, Oklahoma. We’re gonna be doing all over the nation. So this particular podcast, this is part two. We started off with, um, with statistics. And so what I want to do is I want to introduce a couple of other statistics that are different from our first version and um, and then just get us thinking about travel nursing. And then, um, we have two more points that we want to talk about with travel nursing trends that are coming ahead. Employment of registered nurses is projected to grow much faster than the average growth for all occupations. Listen, as a staffing expert in the medical field, I can tell you that’s been happening for years now, but according to the Bureau of labor statistics, employment for RNs, registered nurses is expected to grow by 15%.
From, uh, the Bureau of labor statistics quoted 15% from 2016 to 20 2026. The reason for that is we left off in our last podcast because of the baby boomers. That’s absolutely going to be driving that, which, which is interesting. According to a recent Forbes article, Fresno, California offers the best wages in standard of living costs. According to the article, a nurse can expect to make $81,000 per year on average with our OKC Medical Staffing, but it can go up to luck, what we said earlier, $103,000 a year. But also the Bureau of labor statistics said that the average RN wage across the nation is $43,000 a year. So you can see the drastic interest that many origins are probably interested in. That is correct because they’re not making the money that they went to school to get. So tell me, tell me a little bit about this. Like, so when you would interview, obviously we’re always going to be talking to orange who’ve worked in a hospital or something like that and then, and then they’re just tipping their toe a little bit in this travel nursing thing.
Like are they always surprised at the wage that you’re talking to them about? What’s it like? Well, not really because a lot of nurses and hospitals, they always, they’re having to work with travel nurses. Even though the wages here in Oklahoma, and we’re going to just say an Oklahoma, a nurse, a RN would two years, two to three years experience. She’s only making about 24 to $26 an hour. Right, right. So that would equate to what the statistics as far as they buy yearly you get great OKC Medical Staffing services. Right. Okay. Okay. So and that’s just in the Southern States, you have the same thing. In Louisiana you have the same thing in New York, which you would think New York will be higher since the population it’s not really. Yes, absolutely. So that’s why a lot of nurses are migrating to travel nursing to make a living for their families and what travel nursing does for them.
It allows them to work a 13 week contract and then make, maybe take a week off and start over. So they get the flexibility of having a vacation more often. So, so you’ve got nurses that will literally go in there, work a week, like don’t go somewhere else, work a week at the state, come back [inaudible] that would only make sense. Dego New York, they’re, they’re running people off left and right out there. Yes, absolutely. Because they’re not making money. No, honestly no hospital. That’s why we have the shortage. They’re not paying the nurses for all the schooling. They cannot pay their loans off that they’ve gotten, you know, they’ve taken out to pay the loans off to four to 40 cost of living. Well you have to travel, you know, one of the hospitals that we staff for here in Tulsa, um, they, well I can just say, I can say who it is.
It’s a st Francis hospital. They are the only debt free hospital in the United States thing claim. No, I love this Darsa we basically built their billing, their, you know, we help build their revenue cycle department and we’re so grateful that we even had the opportunity to do that. Right. But um, but that is pretty interesting in it isn’t it? And no wonder some of the hospitals are, obviously they’re looking at wages as a, as a place to cut, you know, there’s, there’s, there’s going to have to be a little bit of a change in our healthcare system it seems like. Well it, I totally agree. But then you have this other side of the spectrum. A lot of your nurses, because they can’t make a wage, they’re going back to school to become NPS so they can make the extra money, even though it does balances to help the doctors because we don’t have, we have a doctor shortage, right?
So it’s just all around we just need more travel nursing. We need more NPS, we need more doctors. And this problem can be solved if more nurses know about travel, nursing, know about the money that they can make and come on board. Well we want to be a resource not just to place nurses, but also to educate. Absolutely. So that that’s the real reason for this. And we don’t make any money at this, but we just, we just want to help people be knowledgeable. And really, I went on when I found out how knowledgeable Darcell was, I asked her to join me on this. She was very gracious in doing this. Not a lot of people, to be honest with you. Darcell lot getting on a podcast like this. Well, I’m very, I’m new to this, but I love and enjoy what I do. So let’s hit some action items real quick and then let’s, let’s wrap this up.
So the first two was the nursing shortage is going to continue to grow. Um, the next, the next item here is the affordable care act has really changed nursing and the shortage. And here’s why. According to the us department of health statistics, the affordable care act resulted in 20 million people gaining health insurance coverage. And as a result with the passing of this legislation, healthcare institutions and hospitals, they had to pivot quickly and travel nursing is one of the main ways that they’re able to accommodate patients according to Kaiser health news even attributed to a 20 year high demand for travel nurses directly to the ACA. And you were talking about this how this was a really big deal. Absolutely. It really is. It travel, nursing really help fix some of the problems, but there’s still a problem out there. Well, ACA is getting adjusted. Um, we know this from the political system with our amazing OKC Medical Staffing solutions.
I study it, I don’t study it, but I pay attention enough, but there’s no telling what will become of the ACA once the administration, the current administration, um, completes their goals. But we know this, he’s pro, uh, president Trump has promised to dismantle the affordable care act, but many changes will likely happen incrementally over time. That being said, he’s also stated that he has, he has plans to keep part of the ACA. So we should not expect it. It’s not a very good political move to yank people’s health care from them. So we shouldn’t, I don’t think he’s going to gang kit. I think he’s going to integrate it. I know, I think so too. So it’s just a bad political move. Yeah, he won’t, I don’t think he’d do that. So luckily we’re going to keep the same amount of people in there. But this leads us to our last point.
There’s bigger roles for nurses. Why don’t you tell me a little bit about what, what does this mean? Like bigger roles for nursing? Well, uh, here you, if you know a nurse who in the state of Oklahoma, we in Oklahoma don’t have a lot of education, uh, for nurses. They don’t know a lot. They just stay in the box. I had a nurse that went to North Carolina, South Carolina realized they went to, Nick was the NICU nurse. She got more educated within that 13 week and she was so excited that and happy that she did the contract because of the education level. Matter of fact, she stayed there for over a year with great OKC Medical Staffing services. Cause you, you as a travel nurse, you could work for 12 months before the government say you’ve got to take two weeks off and then come back. Oh really? So, so was this something that she probably wouldn’t have, she would have never gotten this experience had it not been for travel nursing.
And how did you get her in there if she didn’t have the experience? Well, no, she had the experience from the basis as far as passing the tests and the education to do that. But some of the EMR, as they work with some of the things, techniques that they use in other States, we don’t have it here. Right, right. You know, she wasn’t one that worked for teaching hospital here. So, you know, a teaching hospital like st Francis is a teaching hospital, they have more knowledge than some of the other hospitals do it. Right. Well, as you can tell, travel nursing is just a really big deal. But overall there’s probably not going to be any monumental shakeups in the travel nursing with te best OKC Medical Staffing. Oh, I think it’s going to increase. Well, absolutely. I mean, look at your numbers. You know, it has to, because again, a lot of nurses are going to be NPS and we’re constantly having graduates come out.
Well, I mean, so we’ve got schools trying to keep up, but with the aging workforce, the older population and greater reliance on Ahrens, this is, this is going to continue getting greater and greater. And like what you said, it’s going to lead to a lot of nurses becoming nurse practitioners. Um, and that’s also going to move into the travel nurses. Um, and so we’re going to continue providing good, hopefully quality, um, advice from Darcell and just try to educate the people that listen to this. Thank you so much for joining us.
