always trying to find different ways to add value to job seekers and employers. And the title of this podcast is a strategy for hiring in a time of crisis. And this is just a huge thing that every employer is having to deal with now is how in the world do you, do you hire? And employees are doing the same thing. Like how, how do you go and get hard? We had 30 million people start filing for unemployment and what a huge, huge deal this is. Um, but you know, the big thing is that I’m noticing with people that I try to recommend or suggest and to be quite Frank, I did deal with it myself there for a short while. We were in the staffing industry and so there are not too many staffing firms that did not lose a lot. I knew of some staffing firm owners who had been in government contracts and so the government employee stayed, stayed, stayed going. But we lost 70% of our business and so it threw us off big time. The biggest thing that I’ve started to suggest to people you have an update, uh, more information there and whether you are listening to Trinity employment’s eight-player matchmaker podcast starring your host and the co-founder of Trinity employment specialists, Cory Minter. Hello and welcome back to the A-player matchmakers where we’re always trying to find him different with your OKC Medical Staffing.
ways to add value to job seekers and employers. The title of this podcast is hiring in a time of crisis and this is just, I don’t know that I would want to call it a crisis anymore. It is for a lot of people. Maybe it is for us, but I still don’t like even referring to it that way. It’s a, it’s a different kind of mindset when you think about hiring in a crisis, but, it’s hiring in the most unusual time that any of us have probably ever faced. And you know, that the reality of it is, is when you’re looking at hiring when so many companies, the reality is, is that this is happening all around us. You know, recruiters are reaching out to prospects, you know, um, or some organizations are furloughing or laying people off. Those that are being furloughed, the employees are trying to figure out, should I stay with this company or not?
It’s just a crazy weird time, you know, but there’s just going to be so much stress on different people, uh, and some of it, so in some of it is going to be unnecessary stress. Um, and I think it’s just so important to think about, you know, the basis of trying to have the right kind of mindset. I remember I was, uh, I went to Washington DC and I spent a lot of time around a guy named Lee Cockerel and he had just resigned as the vice president of operations for Walt Disney World and he was going to be doing a presentation with me. It was supposed to be at the white house, which would have been super, super cool. Um, but president Obama at the time had decided to do a surprise visit over in Afghanistan to go see the troops. And so apparently when a president leaves to go anywhere, a big chunk of his cabinet goes with him for your OKC Medical Staffing.
And in our case, it was uh, one of the main, the secretary of commerce and we did not get to meet with him in the white house. That would have been super, super cool. But I spent a lot of time around Lee because we had some downtime now because we weren’t going to be spending so much time doing what we were there to do. And we, I just had a great opportunity to ask him a lot of questions trying to figure out, you know, what’s the best way to approach business, best business advice, blah, blah, blah. Just asked him all sorts of questions trying to make him this a mentoring top moment. And this was the number one thing that he said that I, I just, it just seemed to stick with me and it was, your mindset is really, really important. So you need to do as the movie says, he told me, he said, you just got to let it go to get the best OKC Medical Staffing.
Mindset is all about framing. And so how you think about an approach, the process of your openness to adaptation, you know, and change, you know, that last bit about change, you know, it might not even matter right now because you don’t have any choice. And so having the right kind of mindset and just letting it go, especially some of the smaller things that you and or maybe it’s a big thing, but you have no, you have no control over it will, it’s, it’s a really great idea to go into this mindset, um, because the way that you go in your perspective can change your circumstances a lot. And I think it’s just so important to have the right mindset. But the first thing is you need to accept that the situation could go on for a little while. Hiring managers may be inclined to delay a lot of interviews because they just want to wait and wait for it all to blow over in that what we’re all trying to do, just let’s wait, let this thing take off and get out of here.
But at this point though, um, it’s going to be at least a few weeks, you know, um, and it’s time to really have it. It might be time to have conversations that this thing may go on a little bit longer and uh, putting forth some type of action plan, whether it’s to sit back and wait for it or to get really aggressive with it. Number two, you’re going to have to over-communicate, schedule more meetings with hiring managers, doing more prep conversations, and follow-ups with your candidates. You know, everyone’s trying to figure this out. And you know, even though some things may seem obvious, it, it may not be completely clear. And so really just over-communicating and, um, being very honest as well is, is really important. Uh, number three, the old school mentality about having to look like a dude right in the face and shake his hand isn’t going to be a reality in a lot of situations with your OKC Medical Staffing.
This is very tough for me because that is one of the things that I really Excel at. I do not Excel as well, uh, having meetings through zoom or whatever platform you’re using, but recruiters need to be thinking about the same thing. Um, you got, you’re going to be meeting candidates via screen and a lot of times, uh, with hiring for Trinity, especially just being in front, just me being there, um, and being personally present is really, really important. Um, the, the next thing here is to see the disruption as a possibility for an opportunity. Chances are you’ve been wanting to make some changes, uh, in your hiring process, uh, for some time now. Um, and now you’ve got it. Now’s the time. Take advantage of this. And, uh, just step back, take a look and see where would I like for this company to go, where would I like to see it in the next three to five years and begin to make some changes, you know, um, you know, you need to also sit back and ask yourself, do I really know exactly what I’m doing?
You know? Um, and, and so there are some simple things that people might want to consider. You don’t want to assume that everyone knows how to navigate video calls or even conference calls. So, you know, one of the things that we do here is just having a step by step process for it and, um, troubleshooting ideas. Um, also, if you’re a candidate and you’re listening to this now, um, or if you’re a, or if you’re, uh, if you are working using the zoom, I will tell you, I make sure that I get on at least 10 or 15 minutes in advance to work out any weird kink you would not believe how many weird kinks I’ve had to stupid zoom meetings. Yeah. I don’t lock, I’m sorry about my attitude. I just talked about attitude. I just don’t like them at all. And so trying to figure out the best way to make it work for you with our OKC Medical Staffing.
And for me, just to be honest with you, I don’t want the stress right beforehand. Trying to scrounge around and frantically figure out a way to make it work. I would much rather start about 15 minutes early and if I don’t, if it’s not working properly, it gives us enough time to really get in there and, and get it fixed. Um, rethink who should be participating in the hiring process. Um, you know, partner with your hiring managers and do, uh, a very candid assessment of the people who will be interviewing candidates. You know, do they really understand the interviewing process? Can they, can they truly evaluate the candidate? And if they’re, if they’re, they can’t, well, don’t have them in the call. Um, do they rely too much on a feeling quote, quote, uh, to make a call versus, um, facts and figures, those things go together?
Um, the, the last thing here in this, in this set is to train people on the new process, on doing interviews through zoom. And doing, doing them through video. Listen, we have noticed that it is very accurate, but there are some inaccuracies. You, you’ve got to keep in mind. We’re, we’re staffing firms, so you have a smell, you have, you can’t really see how the person has dressed and presented themselves. And so we’ve had some mishaps in sending people over to an interview that, uh, we didn’t, we didn’t get a chance to see because of our [inaudible] practices. Um, things that you need to begin to look at for recruiting are AI and automation. You need to think about how they’re going to impact the future of recruiting. I know that we have begun to create our own AI software, um,, to automate a big part of our recruiting process.
That was something that we did during Covidien. Um, you’re not always going to need to know what kind of tools you need. Sometimes you just need to try something new and see what happens and adapt right now is a really great time to sit back and see is what we were doing. Was it working? Use the tools that you have in new ways. Really rethink how it is that you’re doing and use this time. You can explore your options. You know, I’ve, I’ve, uh, I’ve heard of a lot of people asking about our nonverification for virtual onboarding. Um, we got our entire onboarding process virtually now and we can get it down very, very quickly. We can bring someone on that. That part has really helped us. Um, remember not every tool is a technology only. You know, there, there are a lot of articles, um, expounding on the glories of interviewing, but not that doesn’t work for everyone and not every company should go that route and you might want to look at, um, the right process for you.
But the thing is, is just taking time to really sit back and understand what’s best for your company and, and, and making, taking action on that and not being, not being concerned to make some changes during this time period. We’ve made a lot of changes over here at Trinity. Um, I think a lot of them have been good time will tell, but you know, one of them I think that is going to be very good is we’re going to be letting a lot of people work from home. I would have never said that before this but we are now and so there, there are going to be some changes I think that are going to be really, really good. If Trinity can help you in your recruiting process in trying to get an a player in a time where there are 30 million people who have filed for unemployment benefits, we would love to be a great resource for you. Please give us a firstname.lastname@example.org
you are listening to Trinity employment’s, a player matchmaker podcast starring your host and the cofounder of Trinity employment specialists, Cory Minter. Hello and welcome back back
to the A-player matchmakers where we’re always trying to find different ways to add value to job seekers and employers. Today’s podcast is how to find work during this coven 19 wow. Well, there have been 30 million people who have applied for unemployment benefits currently. Trinity, we’re having a really tough time just trying to get people to want to go to work because the unemployment benefits were so great, but if you started it day one, right at three months, this $600 extra week is going to falter off. And they used to have it to where you didn’t have to do job searches. Now you do. This is going to become a reality to people that you can’t sit at home all day and eventually this unemployment going to run out. So you’re going to have a lot of people starting to look for work. You know, and, and it’s clear right now that this shelter at home, you know, these requirements, they’re going to disappear eventually, but it’s not going to be overnight.
And there’s still a lot of companies that are not getting back to work, you know? And I know that just because of sales are, you know, trying to go back and do sales companies are just not operating the way that they normally have been. You know, many if not a majority of people who have been laid off or furloughed or cut off from there, you know, their normal livelihood. You know, they just don’t have reserves to continue there to pay their bills. And you know, although unemployment and you know, the emergency, the emergency aid is helping a lot of folks for a large population, the financial support, it’s just not enough to keep the cost of living, you know, or you know, some of them just gotten sucked into a black hole of paperwork trying to figure this out, you know? And so what do you do in the meantime? Well, you hustle. I think,
you know, and this isn’t about hustling, people are cheating people. It’s about figuring out your own hustle to get what you want out of this. Because listen, there are going to be opportunities to present themselves, but I’ll bet you money that those that hustled the most and the hardest are going to be the people that really stand out. It’s going to be, it’s going to be about how to use your time to figure out how to get the very best and get back into this world of work in a position that you want to be in and keep in mind, depending on your situation, you might have to take a job that is out of this line of work that you’re used to, at least temporarily. You know, it can just be a myriad for a lot of people and some people are going to be, you know, too young to have seen an economic downturn. They really don’t have a support system. Americans, according to data, have saved less than ever before. So most people are living paycheck to paycheck. In fact, I saw a document showing that 70% of people are living paycheck to paycheck,
you know, and so this is for people. Maybe you’ve been in a job for a long time and lost touch with the
employment hustle on how it works. Well, it’s different now. I can promise you with all of these digital things, you’re going to feel like your resumes going into a big black hole. But you know, some people are going to be banking on their employer getting back up and running sooner than what they thought. But I’ll tell you, a lot of companies are going to sit back and look at, look at the company and may change courses. So you know, what are some things to do? I’ve got some ideas for you to just consider. Um, you know, you need to know that this is going to be temporary. Um, your goals need to be mitigating how much permanent damage has be done to you because of this temporary situation. Sorry, I tongue-tied. How much permanent damage is what I’m going to say is being done to you because of this temporary situation.
You know, taking a new job during this time does not mean you can’t return back to the career that you were in the middle of the building at a later time. And it’s just really important to note this is temporary. It’s not going to be humiliating if you have to take something outside of where you want to be at for a little bit. Um, next thing is put, put a little glue glitter against the glue if, if you don’t have that great nest egg or family financial support to help you ride out the storm, you can’t afford to be crazy picky right now and you can apply for a lot of different options and you never know. It might be something that you get into that is going to be a, is going to be a huge asset to you having that experience later, but you can apply for a lot more than you would normally.
Um, and that might create some opportunities for you. Um, but don’t get me wrong, I’m not a huge, big, big advocate for going, going after what you want. You know, I mean, I don’t want you to not go after what you want, but also want to make sure that the hierarchy of needs is being met. Like you’ve got to eat and you got to have a roof over your head during the interim. And so putting glitter against the glues, just the act of going after every possible opportunity until something works out for you. A third thing is to use all available resources, all available resources. If you look around, you’ll see that while many industries have come crashing to Holt, there been a lot of industries that have done very well. I’ve got a guy, I’ve got a good buddy and he runs in it firm and everyone now is trying to work from home.
So his company is very valuable and so he’s had not any concerns at all. You know, there’ve been many jobs cropping up across the globe for remote work and increased demand in grocery delivery. Um, healthcare is not doing well now, but there’s going to be some opportunities pop up there. Um, you know, but people are looking for all sorts of things. Um, glass door, that’s uh, the chief product officer Annie Pearl says some of the greatest challenges facing job seekers during these tough times include not knowing what job opportunities are even available or where to focus their job search. And to help with this glass door launch several new tools that you can be aware of and a virtual event to help job seekers quickly find open jobs available. Now. Um, and so you’ve got the job search hub through the glass door. Um, hiring surge Explorer is another, um, title where it filters to find companies that are actively hiring for multiple roles with your OKC Medical Staffing.
And then you have the free virtual event that is regular. Um, the last one they had was on May 6th. They’re going to do another one upcoming. Um, and you know, you want to see the hustle as a practice of discipline. Practicing the hustle of getting work is a strong discipline that can support your future confidence when taking career risks. Listen, if you can go out and get what you want during this time when it comes to job searching, um, you can do it any time ever. And I think that there are some really great opportunities out there for the right person. Um, you need to know that you’re resourceful. Um, if fear and anxiety have been a part of your emotions, which has been for a lot of people. And one thing that is really, really sad is that the suicide rate is at our all-time high right now because of so many people out of work and just not knowing what to do.
And I hate that people get to a place where they’re like the best way out is to end it all. And I, my heart and empathy go out with people that get there in their mind because it’s just not an accurate mindset because this is temporary, but your, your mind is primed for closure versus openness when you’re in this pandemic mode and you need to trust that you’ve got the tools to navigate this chapter of your life in. The more you focus on what you’re going to do to work this out, the better it’s going to be. You focus on positive and you’re going to get more of that. If you focus on the negative, you’re going to get a lot more of that and it’s, you have to be very careful with your mind. Um, none of this means that it’s going to be easy, but it also means that you’ve got options and they might not be the best options that you would want, but they’re good options to get proper OKC Medical Staffing.
They might not be the same options you had a month ago, but they’re good options and the hustle can basically help you to get there. So listen, I would love for you to reach out to Trinity. We would love, we want more than anything to help those in need right now. Um, we just don’t want to see people going into anxiety, crisis, depression, all of those things that can come with the job, with a lack of job. But if you can change your mindset, when you change your perspective, you change your circumstances. When you focus on the positive, you’ll find more of it. If you focus on the negative, you’ll find more of it and we want to help people to achieve a healthy mindset and help them through this process with our relationships. If Trinity can help you in any way, please give us a email@example.com.
You are listening to Trinity employment’s eight-player matchmaker podcast starring your host and the co-founder of Trinity employment specialists, Cory Minter. Hello and welcome back to the A-player matchmakers where we’re always trying to find different ways to add value to job seekers and employers. This particular podcast is going to be primarily for employers, but I think it will be very interesting for employees to be able to look at some of the things, some of the situations that businesses are having to navigate right now. Um, this covert 19 breakout has really reached some havoc around small business and all over the globe. Leaving small business owners really struggling is weight, trying to figure out what’s going on. According to the National Federation of independent business, um, as of March 30th still early in the crisis, 92% of small businesses said they had suffered negative effects as a result of this pandemic with your OKC Medical Staffing.
And just 5% of small business owners said they had experienced no effects at all. I know of some small businesses that had no effects at all. In fact, they increased, it impacted them, but, they were able to increase. And then I’ve, I’ve got some business owners and, and good friends of mine that really experienced a setback. And this really is going to be relative to employment because as business small businesses, because that 70% of our entire um, revenue in the United States, um, small business is going to be a big, big deal. It’s really to me to be quite Frank, that these big box stores, no one minds them being open, but small business has to stay closed.
And there’s nothing that I have against home Depot. I don’t have anything against home Depot, but Home Depot can be open. But, uh, uncle Sam’s hardware store has to be closed. It’s weird, isn’t it? But that’s the case. And you know, while the short term outlook for small businesses, it varies by industry, it’s really important to consider what does a recovery mode look like when the company, when the country begins to open up and establishes, I even hate saying it a new normal, but let’s just say getting back to usual. I hate the word new normal because I get it. There’s going to be some things that change, but I just don’t want, I don’t want Americans to give up civil liberties during this whole thing because of fear. But here are some ideas for small business owners when you’re trying to just rebuild, um, in, in trying to think about getting employees back to work with the best OKC Medical Staffing.
The first thing is, is to assess the financial damage. The first step in developing and rebuilding a new plan is to just see how deeply had your small, had your small business been impacted very quickly. Um, two weeks in, we knew that we had lost 70% of our gross revenue and we began to make decisions based on that number. But that number is really important. So you can really try to see how much do we need to dial back here. But there are different layers involved. Uh, you’ve got the hard numbers, you know, if you haven’t updated your financial statements such as your profit and loss and cash flow statements, you really need to do that. These are for office managers. Um, and um, you know, it’s really helpful to do that right now and you can compare them to your last year’s numbers and really try to figure out where you’re at.
And that was really helpful for us. Um, you know, aside from the hard numbers relating to sales profits and cashflow, it considers other ways in which your business has been impacted in different ways that you can take advantage of this situation. We were deeply impacted, but we created a new piece of software that we’re using for our advantage. Now. Um, the next thing is, is take a look at your business plan for this that we had started for 2020 and do you need to change it and, and begin being proactive. Specifically, you may need to consider how your business might need to pivot and adjust to today’s situation. For example, if you previously relied on foot traffic to a brick and mortar locations for sales, you might need to look at a digital expansion. That’s what we’re looking at right now. We have to figure it out.
I went, uh, just a great example. I went out to, uh, some, some of the clinics that we staff for and man, everyone’s wearing a mask. They got people at the door. They are definitely not ready to be taking, uh, visitors. I can tell you that. And so we’re, we’re stepping back, you know, the, uh, the in partnership with the small business administration score offers businesses access to mentors who can offer guidance. But keep in mind, when you look at those things and talk to these guys, they’ve never experienced this before. The only people that have probably experienced this before are people who actually were working during world war two. That’s, that’s a good indicator right there. Um, number three, consider whether you are going to need any kind of funding to recover. And then if so, what? And then also understand your PPP money and is that still available to you for your OKC Medical Staffing needs?
Um, we have ours but we’re waiting to see what are the roles behind it. I don’t want to go ahead and just start spending that money when I don’t know if it’s going to get forgiven or not. Um, we’ve always been a debt-free company. I’m very proud of that. I’m not interested in going and grabbing up a bunch of debt because I was irresponsible with this loan slash possible forgiveness slash where the government, we’re going to do whatever we want so we don’t care if it impacts you, we’re still going to move forward. That kind of attitude, um, impacts me in a negative way. So I don’t want to depend on it until I know. But when it comes to financing your small business, um, there are several options. The SBA, the PPP, you know, there’s the economic disaster loans that are, that can go out there with the top OKC Medical Staffing.
You can also go for a traditional SBA loan, small business, short term loans, business lines of credit, uh, credit cards. Uh, be careful there. Um, there are all sorts of different options for you, but you want to try to look at those. Number four, revamp your budget to account for new spending. We completely changed our budget and we are operating with completely different staff. We cut back four staff members, um, and we’re just rebuilding. We’re going to rebuild because this is going to come back. But I, I just, it would be nice if we could get our politicians hands off of this because they’re fighting this thing and I really wish that I could go to the news to any new source and feel like we were getting relatively accurate information and not a political spin on any of the data. It’s really, really weird.
Um, some of the things that have happened with our media during this, but you’ll want to revamp your budget to account for new spending. You’re going to have to read both liberal and conservative basis because neither one of them are going to give you accuracy on what’s really going on. Um, even the CDC, it’s really difficult to see what’s going on, but you need to try to figure out how businesses moving so that you can, uh, develop a plan and then develop a timeline for rebuilding. I think a timeline is really, really important. We don’t, no one knows how long this is going to take, but you can set goals and, uh, that’s, that’s one thing that I’ve never stopped doing. I’ll never stop doing. And, um, and I think it’s a great idea for you to set a goal. Um, you know, there are some people that are thinking about a contingency plan for the next crisis with your OKC Medical Staffing.
Let me tell you, the best contingency plan that I’ve ever come up with have cash. Cash on hand is a really, really impactful thing. And, um, I think that that is going to stand the test of time. Just being liquid and not going out and spending everything and being leveraged by debt. Um, I, I’ve been taught by many different people. Listen, you can leverage debt, but my goodness, I’m glad I didn’t do that during this time because we don’t owe anyone anything and we’re just sitting around waiting to figure out how to use our PPP money. These are just some things that you can look at whether you’re a small medical clinic if you are a small business, we serve a lot of small businesses and if you’re trying to get people back to work and trying to hire again, these are some things to think about. I hope you found it helpful. If Trinity can help you in any way, shape or form to just figure out your hiring and revamp your hiring and you know, get some great employees and use the recruiting power right now of a recruiting agency during a time where we have 30 million people filing for unemployment, we would love to be a resource for you.
