Hello and welcome back to part two of our podcast, 10 ways to prepare for a career in travel nursing. I’m here with Garcelle and we’re always trying to find different ways to add value to job seekers and employers because the title of this, this is going to be for employers primarily. We start out with statistics and I want to jump into this a really quickly to make sure and have enough time. So we left off with um, some, some statistics. I’m just going to give you a couple, 70% of nurses, we mentioned this in the last one. Feel burnt out in their current jobs in its lead. Like travel nursing can be a really great relief. Absolutely. Absolutely. You do you staff a lot of nurses just for this reason? Oh, absolutely. Absolutely. They want to travel. They want to get away, um, from their home, you know, just go somewhere, you know, they can’t do that without a good OKC Medical Staffing background.

Working as you know, as a travel nurse or as a nurse that you work a lot of hours, you when you’re on vacation, what do you do? You do the things that you could not do doing that 40 hour week so you’re not having a vacation, you’re taking care of home. So this give you value to be a travel nurse. You know, I’ve got two kids to ourselves. One is seven and one is 11 and one thing that I’ve learned about human beings through my kids, we’re not naturally grateful. Have you? Have you ever have you recognize this? Absolutely. If, if you were to come to my house tonight, my son’s going to be playing something, I promise you you will. And we’re going to announce I made food. Moms made dinner, right? Trust me, I can show you real quickly that human beings are not naturally grateful because he is not grateful at all.

And sometimes all I want is a vacation. Too bad. I’m not RN so I can go to his travel nursing. I can leave my dad gum kids, I can go to Florida, let them complain, do whatever they do. So if you’re like me and your kids aren’t grateful and you just need a break, you should call Darcella. I think you’ll have a travel contract to travel contract. 85% of nurses surveyed said that while they’re not actively looking for a new job, they would really be open to the right opportunity in travel. Nursing is so true. I mean, I have calls several nurses, they said they thought about it, but once you explain the logistics of it and the value that’s in travel, I get that nurse on board. We’ll see. So they’re most likely, I’m assuming that anyone who’s an that’s listening to this and has not tr, not ever tried Traveler’s.

All we’ve been interested, right? There’s, there are all of these things that are just unknown. And um, I can’t remember the name of the author, but he had a great quote. It says there, if fear is one of the strongest emotions and of the fear emotion, the fear of the unknown is the strongest without the best OKC Medical Staffing. And I’m sure, I bet I butchered that, but that’s okay because fear is a false evidence appearing real. That’s right. That’s right. Oh, come on. Come on. So Darcel, one of the things, I know her heart, she really is interested in helping people walk through this. So if you have questions, listen, you don’t, you don’t have to commit to anything. Even listen, knowledge is power. Knowledge gives you power. And so if you are interested, please, you can call Darcel at nine one eight, six two, two, two, five, eight, eight, an answer.

Get any kind of questions about travel nursing answer. That’s, that’s really what we’re wanting to do is be an educational source. You’re not going to get some hardcore press sales. Neither one of us are good at that. It’s just not good. Um, number number, uh, last statistic for we hit our action points. According to the department of health and human services, 20 to 22 million people gained insurance since the affordable care act was implemented. And this certainly has created an unbelievable growth in orange jobs. So there there’s just a plethora of opportunities. There is a shortage. Hospitals are really suffering to bring in nurses all over the U S so there’s all sorts of opportunity for you. We started out and I’m just gonna really quickly, uh, overview our first, uh, five points that we had on the 10 ways to prepare for a career in travel nursing.

And then we are going to be addressing, uh, more specifically five through 10. Number one is explore travel nursing, which we talked about just a second ago, a number to network with current travel nurses. That’s a great way to understand the industry a little bit or call the great, great, great, great Darcell. Um, number three, research, travel, nursing companies. It’s really important that you are knowledgeable about the company that you’re working with. Make sure you’re not a number, you’re more of a person. Tough, tough thing. You are a person. Yeah. As a travel nurse, you’re important. Yeah. And so make sure you’re partnering with the right people. Number four, don’t burn your bridges. Like if something happens, it really matters how you handle your business. That brings us to number five. Consider becoming a float nurse at your current job. Do you have people do this before they go into this industry with our OKC Medical Staffing?

Because what I tell them, they go on on a contract but 13 weeks, uh, I want to make sure, yes. Can I give you an get you another contract? But what if you, I can’t find you a and I want to always be upfront. I will tell that nurse become a float nurse or better yet, pick up PRN at your job. Don’t leave your time. Yeah, just step down. Say I’m going to go do a contract. Talk to them. Communication is a plus and that way if you don’t get another contract, you could go and do PRN or float until I find you another contract. Are there some nurses, forgive me if this is, if this is an irrelevant question, but like are there some nurses that say, Hey, listen, I need to make a little bit more money or a little bit of extra money for your OKC Medical Staffing.

Can I have this time off and go work a travel nursing job during it and then still have their job when they come back. Our nurses in that much of a demand yet that they can is, but what they would have to do was do a float or PRN, right? The best thing to do is PRN because floating means you’re floating from one unit to another. And if you’re an ICU nurse, you can float to a med surge, but you can’t go to an ER as nurses, as you nurses know that. So P R N is the best way because there your only work when you want to work. So if you come back from a contract, you could pick up PRN shifts, right? Right. Well, travel nursing requires nurses to be comfortable in strange hospitals while performing their jobs with skill and ease. There’s a lot of pressure with that.

Absolutely. One way to stimulate a travel nurse experience is become float nurses at your present job. Just like what Darcell said. And, um, and you know, if you hate to float because you know, supplies room familiar spot, you don’t know where everything is. You don’t know where you don’t know your coworkers, you know you’re perturbed by the patient’s rooms are not familiar to you, you’re just all sorts of things that happen. Remember that when you’re out on assignment, you will be in a totally unfamiliar facility. That’s okay. Everything will probably be a little bit different from the flow of the parking computer systems, every things. But, but all you have to do is just give yourself permission to be confused for a couple of days. And I also tell travel nurse if this your first contract and they’re hesitant about going to another state, what I would do is either try to get you a travel contract in your state or somewhere surrounding your state.

We have Missouri, we have Texas, we have Arkansas. So that way you’re venturing out. So you start where are you at in your home area and venture your stuff out. That was, some of them are comfortable doing that. That way you’re not too far from home. And it’s not that big a deal. That’s correct. Number six, have a savings account. Um, most travel companies offer housing lots is allowances. All of these things. However, there’s going to be expenses you’re going to have to pay for upfront. Um, even if they reimburse you TA, TA talk to me about this a little bit. Okay. With travel, we don’t do the housing anymore. This was when they was doing housing. What we do now is give them a housing stipend and what the housing stipend, um, they might be out of the money say for that first week cause most shifts at 36 hours for travel nursing with your OKC Medical Staffing services.

So you go, I, and my advice to a nurse is get do a Airbnb much. She cried and cable ops is there. Every furniture is there. BMB is the best way to go. And it’s cheap. Absolutely cheap. Make sure and check it out. Airbnb’s well, I just got back from Dallas. Uh, how was yours? It was very good. I mean I had one that was unbelievable. Yeah, this one that was live. But you could talk to them, you know, have them send you pictures. Airbnb is the best way to go for travel nursing and hotels. That gives, I call hotels and they give us discounts as an agency and we pass it onto the travel nurses. Okay. Number number seven. Um, gain specialty experience in needed areas. Listen, this is a really great way for you to try to figure out what your God given.

Just ability is, you know, I teach a class called your one degree. You’ve got 360 degrees in anything that you do. We live in America, so we can go do anything. But where really you begin to Excel at an at a really ridiculous rate is when you can find out that one area that you are just naturally gifted in. And when you do it, it energizes you. You feel great when you do it. Um, it’s a big Tom green all the way around. Whereas there, there’s gotta be some areas of nursing where some nurses, it just drains them over time. You know, and when you can begin, when you can work in different areas, you gotta hone in quickly on that one degree where you’re just really energized. And so you can, you can go and check this out and begin to learn this area with your OKC Medical Staffing.

Number eight, obtain specialty nurse certifications. How does this happen to learn about this? Um, they could get different certifications for, and it helps when you come back home because as you travel nursing, if you go to a certain hospital, you might have to get the NIC certification, the stroke certification, you, it’s, it’s continued education for you. But a lot of times the hospitals pay for you to get those certifications. So as beneficial for a travel nurse because you’re getting something different than you do in your own backyard. And that lead, that leads us to number nine. We have two more. Keep your basic certifications up to date, your BLS, ACL, S they’re needed by all nurses in order to work at, at all of these facilities. So if you’re, if you’re getting to where that’s expiring, um, those are, those are some options with the best OKC Medical Staffing. You know, for example, in like pediatric areas or especially areas you’re going to need a pals certification and you know, this is a great way for you to be able to keep your certifications up to date.

Number 10, keep your medical records portfolio up today. Yes, that was like your shot records there as a travel nurse, you know, you had to have more shots than you would at your home hospitals because they might require a extra booster, extra varicella or, and I know as a travel nurse, as a nurse in general, you know that you have to have those records. So when you, whoever you approached, we hope as Trinity for your travel contract, I will definitely ask you to send me those over because that eliminates, cause there is a lot of paperwork to do. So that eliminate me asking you right. If Trinity can help you in any way with your travel nursing, if you even just need some information, please give us call.
