Trinity Staffing – Blog Video.mp4
[00:00:05] Hi my name is Cory Minter I’m president of Trinity employment specialists we’re staffing organization with staff in both Oklahoma City and Tulsa market and we have been in Tulsa for almost 10 years now been in Inc magazine and we’ve seen a lot of success.
[00:00:25] And today I want to talk just a little bit about something that I think is really important for A-one and it doesn’t matter whether it’s an employee whether you’re the boss whether you’re the business owner it doesn’t matter. Everyone always wants to at least evaluate where they’re at with their influence and influence is a big deal.
[00:00:51] You know there are some people that you’ve met before and like you’re met them like immediately they have influence.
[00:01:00] Like immediately they talk to you and there’s just something about them in their career.
[00:01:07] They’re charismatic and you really want to be around them.
[00:01:10] People want to be about around them and most people that look at influence and just think about influence in their head they like will you know to be influential.
[00:01:24] I really need to have that kind of personality or to be influential.
[00:01:29] You know I need to be really intellectual. I need to be really really smart or you know or many different things you can think of.
[00:01:39] So I want to ask the question today.
[00:01:42] What what impact influence in other people. And I want to give you a different perspective to think about it. The in the thing is I don’t think I’ve ever heard this before but I’ve really lived my own life.
[00:01:59] And so I think that this is something that can be beneficial to you. I want to get it started.
[00:02:05] You know most people are drifters. They[00:02:10] kind of it. They kind of go where they lead them. So what I mean by that is just this week alone in my office I started out violently kill the week just excited about this week.
[00:02:28] And then and then even I think it even started about midday Monday. There was something crazy that happened that really just kind of took me off I came and it took that joy and that excitement in it kind of notched it down just a little bit and then something else happened on Tuesday. And we’re we’re on we’re on Thursday now. And my week has just gone up and down.
[00:02:53] And I think a lot of leaders they kind of use their influence and not really their influence but their personality and how they act is all completely dictated by how they feel or whatever is happening at the moment.
[00:03:09] And the best leaders just don’t do that. And let me tell you what what I’m talking about the best leaders the best leaders who have influence there.
[00:03:34] And this is what I mean by this.
[00:03:37] We’re all going to have stuff happen to us in our week is going to go crazy. And just like my week has gone crazy this week.
[00:03:45] But the best leaders have an ability to stay consistent throughout it and they don’t let the things that are happening to them impact the other people around them. And when when they do that it creates something in the team.
[00:04:05] It eliminates fear.
[00:04:07] It gives security it brings a lot of things to the team that is really really important. Consistency. But here’s the thing for me especially you have to practice being consistent.
[00:04:23] Let me tell you just a quick story about this happened probably about your for in our company and then maybe year six. We’ve been in we’ve been in business for 10 years now but this is just a pattern of my growing up that I’ve experienced as a leader one time. You know my.
[00:04:44] My one of my team members came to me and she said you know the way that you feel really impacts the way our workflow goes in the in the mood of our office. And I was like What are you talking about.
[00:04:56] She’s like Well when you when you are having a great week we all know it because you’re joking around you’re having fun in the entire office really enjoys it.
[00:05:06] And when you’re having a bad week it really it really impacts us too.
[00:05:11] And sometimes we you know we just don’t have as good a week when you don’t. Because maybe it’s because of you know I am the boss but I at first I thought That’s so ridiculous why would you.
[00:05:26] Why would your the way you feel and the way your your day goes why would it be directly impacted.
[00:05:32] All because just that day I didn’t say anything negative everything I just went off and I was quiet some out some way that impact or surprised me until I got to really practicing.
[00:05:50] Until I got to practicing being consistent and what I mean by this is as a leader even though I might feel crummy and maybe I don’t feel like joking around or maybe I don’t feel like being jovial in the office.
[00:06:09] The How I act around the other people there really impacts their work on their work output in many cases.
[00:06:19] You know it’s just it’s something that just happens you can’t stop it.
[00:06:25] If you’re a guy if you’re a leader and you have him if you have impact on people you or your moods are going to really really change things.
[00:06:36] But the thing is is when you remain consistent when you practice it and you get to where you can be consistent this is what happens.
[00:06:47] Is crazy.
[00:06:48] I promise you you will brain.
[00:06:56] You will bring peace to your to your organization influencers are consistent and influencers have an ability to lean in towards peace and they bring a peaceful atmosphere.
[00:07:12] And I just want I just want you to ask yourself like think about the people that you enjoy being around the most.
[00:07:21] I’m telling you likely they bring some peace to you that gives you a feeling of of things or say I don’t I don’t have to be on guard here.
[00:07:34] I don’t have to watch out for this person here. And when you become a leader who leans in towards peace all the time and tries to incorporate that into your in your company it’s going to be a big game changer for you. But let me tell you how a players want to be in a peaceful environment. And you hear me talk and all the time about hiring a players not tolerant and B and C level players will.
[00:08:04] A players will stay around for the same reason. You know what. One of the things that we try to create in our household I try to create a peaceful household. I want I want our kids to feel comfortable. I want them to feel safe.
[00:08:20] I let you know in our family we will get along we enjoy each other a lot and because of that my kids friends want to come and play at our house because we’ve created a peaceful environment.
[00:08:36] It’s the same thing with your employees.
[00:08:40] If you want to keep employees and reduce your turnover rates create yourself a peaceful environment and you’ll be blown away at it what that does for your organization. You know I love Tom.
[00:08:56] You just need to add value to people to make them feel peaceful and I’m running out of time here so I’m going to I’m just going wrap this up with a quick story. Actually Jim Stovall told me and a friend about the time that he was sitting with Zig Ziglar at a food court he said he was at this food court in a mall and he’s sitting there. Zig Ziglar and there was a young man that came up that was he.
[00:09:25] He just looked like he was either slow or he wasn’t he wasn’t he might have been mentally challenged. They weren’t really sure but he said this this young man was going around and he was wiping down tables and Zig went over and went over to the young kid and he said you know I want you to know that what you’re doing might seem Joe. It may seem like a soft small test to you but the fact that I watched you really really wipe down that table and try to really truly do a good job with it.
[00:10:01] It I Don’t you know that impacted me and I appreciate the kind of attention that you put your work and it made.
[00:10:11] It meant a lot to me to watch you see that to see you wipe down your table like that. It says a whole lot about your character and.
[00:10:19] Zig Ziglar walked off and Jim said he wanted to go up to the kids say do you have any idea who just complimented you you know. Zig Ziglar. But you could see in the reflection of his voice. And he said how much that had meant to him sometimes bringing a peaceful environment is just telling other people what you’re grateful for in them and what you appreciate.
[00:10:45] And so today my my courage moment is like pay attention to your influence. Pay attention to how you create influence and influence.
[00:10:56] Is it always what you think influences isn’t just always about a great personality. Oftentimes it’s the way you make people feel and bring a peaceful environment to them and staying consistent helps them thrive in a great environment.
[00:11:12] So I hope this helps you out.
