Cory: Hi. My name is Cory Minter and I am president of Trinity Employment Specialists. Trinity is a Tulsa staffing company and we specialize in staffing for almost everything in the medical field. We staff for medical billers, LPNs, RNs, X-ray techs, radiology techs, same thing. We staff all the way up to nurse practitioners, front office receptionist, we staff for all of these positions in the medical field and in the accounting industry, we staff for accountants, customer service reps. In the banking industry we staff for loan originators, mortgage originators, loan processors, all of these different positions that we staff for. But those are our lanes and those are the areas that we stay within. That’s a little bit of a description about Trinity and what it is that we do in the Tulsa and the Oklahoma City markets.

I want to share with you real quick just some thoughts about confidence in Tulsa staffing. I just got off the phone, literally, just a second ago with an employee and I want to share this story with you, because this individual has tons of confidence. She is confident in areas that is guaranteed to not lead to success and so the whole purpose of this video is to try to ask yourself as an employee or as a business leader, what are you confident in and is that going to serve you very well? Let me share the story with you. It’s the craziest thing, literally, I just got off the phone with this scenario.

Here it goes. Really funny. I had someone come in and interview for a position and she was really, really needing an opportunity and the thing is, this individual is not a certified medical assistant so it eliminates her from being considered by, I would say, 90% of the clinics around town. She was coming to me, asking for me to take a chance on her and with my recommendation she got an interview, and on my recommendation she got hired with somebody that I know very well who trust me. Man, did I put my reputation behind the wrong person, that doesn’t happen very often, but this person really put one over on me in Tulsa staffing. She was really confident, she came off of a farm and that’s where she grew up. She grew up on a farm and I also grew up in the country on a farm, but I’m not trying to stereotype in any way. In general, the people that I knew that were really hard working farmers, they had been thought the importance of hard work and I saw some of these character traits in the way that she used her confidence in the interview, and I was really intrigued by her and I thought that she would be someone that, no question, she is somebody that you could rely on in Tulsa staffing. Because when you work on a farm and something happens or the gate is open and your cows are getting out, if you’re tired it’s just born in to you, it doesn’t even cross your mind that you wouldn’t go try to get the cows back in because you’re tired that day. That just doesn’t register in your brain. You just go and do what needs to be done. That’s the lifestyle that a farm builds into people even at a young age.

I thought that’s the type of character that I would be getting out of someone and the very first day, she works one day, she really liked it and then she called in the next day and said, “You know, my father got bit by a snake last night and I had to take him to the ER and I didn’t get back in to work, I didn’t get back home until two in the morning” and she called me to tell me that she missed her alarm and her alarm didn’t go off and she is like, “I am so sorry. I’m so sorry. My dad got bit by a snake last night, and the alarm didn’t go off and I am on my way.” In my mind, that has happened to me. I’m sure that that’s happened to you and so in my mind, no big deal. I’m going to call. Everyone’s had this happen. I hate it when it happens to me, because it just freaks me out and I need to hurry up and she seemed like that over the phone. She was very self-conscious about it and she was like, “I’ve got to get in to work.” I called the manager and I let the manager know that she’s coming in anytime now. In about two hours later, this employee at this medical clinic that I’m Tulsa staffing for, calls me and says, “I don’t know that I should be going in because I’m really tired. I only got five hours of sleep last night.” and she was like, “I’m just going to look tired in front of the patients and I just don’t know that I can do that.” I said, “Whoa, you told me almost two hours ago that you were heading in right then and there. I would expect you to be there for at least an hour and a half now. Why didn’t you do what you said that you were going to do?”

But she was so confident in it, and she’s like, “It just doesn’t make sense for me to go in when I’m going to be tired and patients are obviously going to see that I’m tired.” I said, “Hold on. That’s your perspective. If you have a perspective that you’re going to be tired all day and you keep telling yourself you’re going to be tired all day, guess what, you’re going to be tired all day, but if you say that, “Listen, I didn’t get very much sleep but I’m going to make the very best of this.” That’s a complete different story with Tulsa staffing. It just so happened that night that I had a huge presentation the next morning and I had a few things that I had to work on in the house so I did not get to bed until midnight and I had to wake up at 3:30 or 4 AM to handle something for the next day, for the presentation.

I got way less sleep than she did, and I kept telling her I said, “Listen, I got less sleep than you did last night and I’m sorry that happened to you, but I’m really tired but I’m going to choose to have the perspective of this, but she confidently told me, “No, I am too tired to be able to go in.” I said, “Listen. If you do that, your employer is going to be really skeptical, because you just told me you were going in two hours ago. I called them and let them know that you’re on your way.” We went on and on and on about this but this is what– I’m trying to give you this story of a scenario, because this happens everyday, but this is who this happens to. There’s a good reason why that individual has had trouble with employment. She had one place that she had stayed with for a long time, but it’s obvious to me that they put up with a lot of her shenanigans, because she is coming confident, she’s confident in the wrong things.

She’s trying to tell me confidently that the best thing for her to do is to stay in when she only got five hours of sleep. Listen. Many people only get five hours of sleep. In fact, this morning, a big portion of the US population got less than five hours of sleep, but yet they’re going to go to work today and it might feel like a grind that day, but they’re going to do the best that they can. They’re going to make the best of that. There are some people who have insomnia. They still get up and go to work. One of my best friend’s wife has insomnia. She’s going to get up and she’s going to go to work and she’s going to work hard, and she’s going to make the very best of it. It’s all in your perspective, but employees that are at the lower levels are confident in the wrong things. They’re confident to call in for almost no reason at all. This girl just called in and said, “Hey listen-

Cory Minter: -my day care called and I’m leaving.” She confidently said that, she didn’t even think to say, “I’m going to try to call you back and let you know when I can get back in or see if there’s any possibility of me getting back in.” She’s just confidently saying, “I’m not going to be there” and she doesn’t even think about what that does to her clinic and her team. Employees who make the least amount of money, this is truth in my experience, I work with people all the time. These employees are confident in the wrong things. They’re confident in their excuses. They’re confident in trying to get out of work. They’re confident in not meeting deadlines and using their excuses to get out of it. They are confident in being able to try their best to act like it’s not a big deal to their employer. They’re confident in making excuses. They’re confident in all the wrong things.

For all of the employees out there, this whole series that I’m doing in this part of the videos, is all about trying to focus on the right things. We all have a journey that we’re going to through in life, we’re all going to have this journey. This journey through employment is either going to be a positive one or it can be a negative one. I’m telling you, if you’re confident in the wrong things, making excuses and all this stuff, you are going to be stuck at the lowest income levels available in our society. No one is going to pay you to do something great, because you have eliminated yourself from greatness because of your perspective on what is important, and your confidence is in all the negative things.

Switch you confidence to putting it towards being proactive, meeting deadlines. Put your confidence in showing up to work and not coming up with excuses and your entire family life is going to change, your career is going to change, your whole life is going to be flipped upside down when it comes to your monetary means.
